Wingate, N.C.----The Wingate University Bulldogs won their fourth straight game Saturday afternoon, prevailing 24-15 over Catawba College in South Atlantic Conference football action at Irwin Belk Stadium. The Bulldogs improve to 6-1 overall and 4-1 in the SAC, while the Indians fall to 2-6 overall and 1-5 in league play.
KEY STATS
- Wingate had 273 rushing yards and 172 passing yards for 445 yards of offense
- Catawba went for 157 rushing yards and 148 passing yards for 305 total yards
- Each team had 17 first downs
- The 'Dogs were five-for-11 on third downs; the Indians went two-for-14

FIRST QUARTER
- Wingate punted on its opening drive, and the punt was blocked by Damey Gathings
- The Indians went backwards on the drive, but a Wade Robins 40-yard field goal gave Catawba the lead
- The 'Dogs answered on the ensuing possession, needing just one play to take the lead
- It was Pugh's 75-yard rushing touchdown that gave the Bulldogs a 7-3 lead at the 9:31 mark
- LJ Turner scored from 23 yards out on fourth and one to give the Indians a 9-7 lead
- Morrison blocked the PAT to keep the lead at two
SECOND QUARTER
- Wingate used an eight-play, 62-yard drive spanning the first and second quarters to regain the lead
- A 17-yard run from Barnett got the 'Dogs inside the 10
- Bonesteel connected on a 25-yard field goal to make it 10-9
- That would be all of the scoring in the half, with Catawba missing a pair of field goals in the frame
THIRD QUARTER
- Wingate forced a punt on Catawba's opening drive, taking over on the WU 16
- The 'Dogs went 84 yards on eight play to add to the lead
- A Braylon Ratcliff 18-yard run got it into Catawba territory
- Bentley hit a wide open Flanders for a 45-yard touchdown to make it 17-9 at the 3:59 mark
- The Indians answered with an 11-play, 73-yard scoring drive
- Hunter Sheppard hit Jaylin Linder for a seven-yard TD to cut the lead to two
- The two-point conversion failed, keeping Wingate on top
FOURTH QUARTER
- Wingate worked the ball into the Catawba red zone, but the Indians recovered a fumble to halt the drive
- The Indians got the ball back with 4:52 remaining, trailing by two
- Catawba got it to the WU 43 with under two minutes left, but had to convert a fourth down
- Best and Diego Aviles met Catawba running back Marques Williams in the backfield to give the 'Dogs the ball
- On third and 13 with 1:07 left, Pugh broke free for a 57-yard touchdown to make it 24-15
- Fleming had a strip sack on the ensuing Catawba possession, with Jonathen Cross recovering the fumble to secure the win
